We at Janyaa love the
world we live in. We want to do our best to keep our mother Earth as
happy as possible. So we started thinking what can we do?
Our first
focus was on our fundraising
programs. When we started our Volleyball tournament, we wondered
what are the areas we can work on. First thought was with the food
and drinks that we supply to our players. For water, we decided not
to use water bottles and we went with water containers for both
water and lemonade. Are you wondering why? Well, check this
link: http://share.zoho.com/preview/presentation/147421000000018091/water-disaster.pps
We are sure you
are convinced by now. We request you all to abandon usage of
bottles where possible. Even though we at Janyaa did not supply
water bottles, we had quite a few players who brought their own
drinks. While cleaning up in the end, we noticed the number of bottles
that were trashed. We must admit our heart was bleeding looking
at all the waste that was generated. So for our next event, we
will specifically request everyone to bring their own reusable
bottles, and fill up with our water/lemonade. Let's see how this
works.
Then comes the food.
When we talked to our sponsor we requested not to use styrofoam take
away boxes, but recyclable ones - to which they kindly obliged.
Wondering why we don't want to use styrofoam? Check this:

Next
time when you use styrofoam think of mother Earth. Refuse styrofoam
take-away boxes at restaurants.
With our Volleyball event, we
noticed that the waste generated was so huge from the food
sale that we need to think of an alternative. So for our Walkathon
we decided to go with rolls and sandwiches. Well, we hope people
will appreciate this initiative.
Our next focus is the schools we work with. We are
in talks with a partner to implement compost facilities in schools
and use it do grow a garden that students can maintain.
This will not only give a sense of responsibility to the children
but increase their awareness about the environment we live
in.
